SAP Fiori Apps

SAP Fiori is a novel user experience for SAP-based applications and software. It offers a set of applications that can be used in the day-to-day activities of a business, such as financial apps, work approvals, calculation apps, and a wide array of self-service apps.

SAP Fiori offers more than 300 role-based applications such as finance, human resource, manufacturing, etc. When you open the software’s homepage application, you’ll instantly view a flower picture – Fiori is an Italian name that means flowers.

SAP Fiori offers every business function on compatible devices in real-time. It provides business roles on simple functions with unmatched responsiveness on smartphones, computers, and tablets. Fiori apps are based on user interface U15.

In this post, we’ll explore how SAP Fiori apps can help your organization improve efficiency and increase productivity.

How was SAP Fiori Created?

Research was carried out which indicated that the majority of SAP users utilized SAP’s user interface to access certain applications. Some of these applications included manager-employee interactions like travel requests, leave requests, and the like.

These GUI had over 300,000 screens with a wide range of functionalities in it. SAP then determined the most frequently used applications and renewed them. That is the genesis of SAP Fiori.

Design Principles of SAP Fiori

SAP Fiori U15 is governed by five key design principles. These design principles simplify SAP Fiori and categorize various transactions into easy task-oriented UI apps.

  • Delightful – Fiori was tailored to work collaboratively with ECC 6.0 to make it convenient for users to deploy on existing SAP systems.
  • Responsiveness – When SAP Fiori combines with SAP HANA’s power, it delivers unrivaled query execution and application response times.
  • Rolebased – SAP has reconfigured multiple SAP transactions and transformed them into appealing interactive applications that show users only the most relevant and useful information to them.
  • Seamless experience – SAP offers all its Fiori applications in the same language regardless of the platform of deployment.
  • Simple – To simplify SAP Fiori for its users, Fiori has developed a 1-1-3 scenario. In this scenario, 1 means user, 1 means use case and 3 means screens.

Types of SAP Fiori Apps

Fiori apps are divided into three main types depending on their functions and infrastructure requirements:

  • Analytical apps
  • Fact sheets
  • Transactional apps

Let’s look at them in more detail.

Analytical apps

Analytical apps provide real-time, role-based information regarding the company’s operations. These apps integrate SAP HANA’s capability with the SAP business suite. It offers precise information from massive data volumes in a front-end browser.

With this type of app, you can monitor the key performance indicators (KPIs) of an organization. You can also carry out complex calculations and aggregations of your company operations. Once you have this information, you can act immediately depending on the market conditions.

Lastly, Fiori’s analytical apps operate on virtual data models and use the SAP HANA database.

Fact sheets

The key features of fact sheets include:

  • They allow you to navigate a single-fact sheet to all of its relevant fact sheets
  • They allow you to head to Transactional apps and run SAP transactions – some even come with the option of integrating with geographical maps
  • They need an ABAP stack and only use the SAP HANA database – but they can’t be ported onto SAP HANA’s Live tier-2 architecture
  • They are used to retrieve important information in business operations

For instance, if you have a fact sheet app with details regarding supplier contracts. With this app, you can retrieve information such as supplier details, item details, contract conditions, etc.

Transactional apps

Some key features of transactional apps include:

  • The first release contained 25 transactional apps
  • They operate to their full potential on SAP HANA’s database – but they can still be deployed on any database with reasonable performance
  • They’re used to carry out transactional tasks, such as travel requests, leave requests, and the like
